Brunswick regent to wed again

November 9, 1909

In an announcement today made at Wernigerode, Prussian Saxony, Duke Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Regent for the Duchy of Brunswick, is to marry Princess Elisabeth of Stolberg-Rossla. The marriage will take place on December 15.

Duke Johann Albrecht, who was born at Schwerin on December 5, 1857, was accepted as Brunswick's regent on June 5, 1907. His election was "apparently the last chapter in the long-drawn-out controversy over the succession to the throne of Brunswick." The Duke of Cumberland is considered the rightful heir.

Johann Albrecht's first wife, Princess Elisabeth of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach died in July 1908.

Princess Elisabeth of Stolberg-Rossla is 24 years old and the third daughter of Count Botho of Stolberg-Rossla and his second wife, Hedwig.
